I would like to welcome all students to the Sixth Form at Banbridge High School.

As Sixth Form students, you are about to embark on a significant stage of your education, where, alongside your studies you, will take on personal responsibilities and challenges, form new relationships and demonstrate your growing maturity.

You will encounter unfamiliar situations and tackle more advanced work in a style which you have not yet become accustomed.  Our experience tells us that students who achieve their true potential and who gain the highest marks are those who take the greatest responsibility for their own progress.  Independence is therefore an area that all students should aim to improve and build on as they journey through the rigour of Post 16 study.  At Post16 there is a greater expectation that students will cultivate skills and knowledge to underpin their classroom work.

In choosing to return to Sixth Form study, it is assumed that you have an enthusiasm and an interest for the subjects chosen, whether as a career choice or for a genuine interest in the subject itself.  This booklet is designed to support you in your studies and to help you to become an independent learner.

Banbridge High School Sixth Form continues to grow, as do the opportunities available to students.  You will have opportunities to achieve the best results and to involve yourselves in enrichment activities to gain skills for life, university or work.   It is important that you take these opportunities and that you engage in all areas of the Sixth Form in order to gain the most from it.

Remember though that you are part of a team, and as with any team you get back what you put in.  You will be amongst friends and a supportive staff.  With the right work ethic and commitment you will learn to adapt to the demands of Post 16 study.

Wherever your career path will take you, your Post 16 study will be a vital component of you achieving it.

Head of Years 13 & 14

University Roadshow

Banbridge High School was pleased to host the University Roadshow on Monday 5th September.  Year 13 and 14 students from our own school were joined by their contemporaries from St Patrick’s College to learn first hand about applying to university. Representatives from universities and HE providers such as St Andrew’s, Letterkenny Institute, Harper Adams and more, were on hand to provide information and advice to potential applicants.

All agreed the day was informative and provided a sound start to decision making for life after Banbridge High!

Sixth Form Activity Day

Wind and rain did not put off our Sixth Form when faced with high rope challenges and kayaking!  To start the year off our annual activity day, which was held at Lurgaboy Adventure Centre, was a great success (especially the Dominoes Pizza delivered right to the hardworking students).

Our students did themselves proud by taking part in all the challenges with such a positive attitude.

The Sixth Form Tutors and Head of Year would like to acknowledge the students super effort and respectful manner throughout the day.  Well done to you all!
