Learning Support

Our purpose is:

  • To cater for pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs and to assist them to follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum at a pace they can follow, with one to one and group teaching.
  • To meet the academic and personal needs of all our pupils.
  • To treat each pupil in our care as an individual, with individual needs and aspirations and to endeavour to prepare them for adult life.

We have four purpose built and well-equipped classrooms. In addition to the core teaching staff we have four experienced classroom assistants who help support our pupils in all areas of the curriculum.

Years 8 – 10 are integrated with their peers in mainstream for Science, Music, Technology, Physical Education, Art and Home Economics.

With the exception of English and Mathematics Year 11 – 12 are fully integrated. They are offered choices at GCSE, OCR, Occupational Studies, Essential Skills and other internal examinations.

This approach is designed to encourage a greater independence and self reliance as they progress throughout the school, as well as offering a wide range of learning experiences and opportunities. The teaching environment is friendly and supportive. Discipline is firm but fair, in which achievement and progression are encouraged throughout.
